Kindness ~ Compassion ~ Community
Who We Are
Taejon's Treehouse was founded by Melissa and her son Taejon. The dream began as a french toast cafe. While doing research Melissa came across information about a cat cafe. Cat Cafe! What could that be?
A cat cafe is a cafe with a cat lounge attached. The cat lounge homes cats from the local shelters until they are adopted. People come and hang out with the cats while they are their - some to adopt and some just to see them.
The cat cafe allows the cats to roam freely through the room so that they can be their spunky selves. People are always visiting so the cats feel loved and wanted even while waiting for their permanent families to find them. This atmosphere allows the cats that seem shy or those that are scared with stuck in cages to show their true selves which is usually a fun-loving cat. And truly, while the shelter is a wonderful place and does all it can for the cats, living in "kitty jail" is not fair to these lovable creatures. The cat cafe helps the shelter to provide an environment of freedom and life while the cats wait to be found by their new families.
We have been working with the Stark County Humane Society to feature adoptable cats on our Facebook page as well as through on-site live streaming. Recently we began to talk to children's groups about how to take care of pets, proper actions around unfamiliar animals, and how they can help the local shelters. We have also started hosting Dine to Donate events at local restaurants. We hope to open our physical location by summer 2020 with the help of our supporters.
Our Mission & Vision
Our mission at Taejon's Treehouse is to create an atmosphere of Kindness ~ Compassion ~ Community by helping local cats find families and connect with our community through events and programs.
Taejon's Treehouse is aimed more at being a community center with a cat lounge rather than just a cafe. Our vision includes moving into an old school building to house cats with all needs and expand into a community center with a large restaurant, community gardens, and an expansion center for youth. We hope to have a non-profit, low cost spay & neuter program eventually. In addition to helping the cats, we are going to use our programs to give local college students the experience they need to graduate and build their careers through internships in our various programs.
We are looking for a location as well as the resources needed to house the cats. If you are able and willing to help in any way please contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
